There are two ways that a link to an external website can be added to GVO - one comprehensive (recommended) and the other is very simple with limited functionality.
The first method (creating a page with a link in it) allows many more features, attached documents as well as links to external sites (and internal documents) and also allows commenting.
1. Add link to external site with additional features (eg comments)
Navigate to the folder where you wish to add the 'link'.
Use the Actions/New Page option and the following screen will appear:
Add the Title in the Title Box.
Add any descriptive and supporting text about the link in the 'Body' area (using any of the normal features such as Bold, Underline, Colour etc.
Add the link using the small 'link' icon on the toolbar - if you select some text from the body first then that text will become the link. You can add as much text and as many links as you want. The second arrow in the image points to a small GVO icon where a link to a document already in the GVO can be added.
The link 'pop up' looks like this...
The second tab (Target) gives various options about how the link will work (eg open in new window). When completed looks like this...
Note: You can use the 'Target' tab to decide how the link should open (new tab etc)
...and when in the 'Body' area looks like this...
...and when saved and viewed looks like this...
Comments and 'Share' are available. Files can also be attached to a page'.
2. Simple link (no comments possible) - not recommended!
Navigate to the folder where you wish to add the link. Then use the Actions/New Link option.
... and the following screen will appear.
Add the name for the link, add the website address and select the checkbox option for how the link will open then press Submit.
The link will appear in the folder. Note that commenting is not available and no descriptive text is possible - it is a very basic option and this is why we strongly suggest the use of a link within a page (using the link icon in the page).
