School Folder Structure in a MAT GVO (Multi-Academy Trust)

When a GVO is set up for a MAT (Multi-Academy Trust) careful consideration must be given to the folder structure. Factors to take into account include:

1. What Folders & Sub-Folders are required for the Trust Board
2. What Folders & Sub-Folders are required for each school in the MAT
3. What areas will be 'public' (all users can see)
4. What areas will be 'restricted' and what restricted are needed
5. Careful setting up of 'Boards' and 'Groups' for access and notification purposes

It is good practice to take time to set this up correctly right from the start so that it is very clear where any document added to GVO should be stored.

Below is a suggested folder structure for each local school in a MAT where there are no school committees - if there are committees some of the principles can be adopted.

In this example it will be obvious where documents need to be stored - it is often useful yo have academic year sub-folders in some of the folders to make navigation easier. Below is an example of sub folders for the 'Agendas' folder.

Time spent setting the structure up carefully is time well spent!
